Actions During an Eye Emergency

Your actions during an eye emergency can make a significant difference in the health and preservation of your vision.

What to Do During an Eye Emergency:

  1. Keep calm and think clearly.
  2. To remove a foreign object from your eye, gently rinse your eyes with clean, lukewarm water.
  3. Use a clean cloth or a protective shield (like a paper cup) to cover the injured or affected eye.
  4. Contact ReFocus Eye Health in Windsor for professional care.

What to Avoid:

  1. Don’t rub your eyes. It can exacerbate the injury or introduce bacteria, worsening the situation.
  2. Avoid using tweezers or other sharp objects to remove a foreign object from your eye.
  3. If something is embedded in your eye, don’t try to remove it on your own.
  4. Avoid treating the situation with over-the-counter medications or home remedies.
  5. Time is crucial in eye emergencies. Delaying seeking medical assistance can lead to severe complications.
